Public transportation is very safe, easy, images (5)clean, reliable and convenient not only in Taipei, but also across the island. Taipei has several Mass Rapid Transport (MRT) lines and many bus routes. A typical bus route to the Taipei Main Station (located in the city center) from the NCCU campus will cost you around NT$24 (US$0.80). This is a special price for students.

The closest MRT lines are the green line and the brown line. They both can take you to the city center and to Taipei’s main touristic attractions.

  • The brown line’s nearest station is called Taipei Zoo. To get there from the NCCU campus, you will have to catch bus from the bus stop across from the McDonald’s or across from the Jason’s market.
  • The green line’s closest station is called Gongguan. You will have to catch No. 236 bus from the bus stop in front of NCCU’s main gate.

Your NCCU Student Card is also a so-called “EZ card”, equipped with RFID technology and which you can use to pay for your bus or MRT rides. All you need to do is simply charge your card at any convenience store (7-Eleven, Hi-Life, OK Mart and Family Mart) or MRT station with a desired amount of money and when you get on buses or enter MRT stations, just put your Student Card close to the electronic reader and the value of the bus or MRT ride will be instantly discounted from the card.

Taipei city also offers a bicycle service called “U-bike”, through which you can rent bicycles located in parking lots of strategic MRT stations to travel around the city. For more information, please check the U-bike official website10c520ac8f943a9b

As a matter of precaution, be aware that Taipei’s streets are packed with heavy traffic due to to a great number of vehicles (especially scooters) on the road at all times during the day until midnight, so make sure you observe the pedestrian crossing lights and signs when walking on the city’s streets.
