Apply for your account

To open a bank account, you must handle it in person, in possession of the followings:

  • Alien Residence Card (ARC)
  • Valid passport with legal entry visa (complementary ID)
  • Student ID card
  • An initial deposit of at least NT$1,000
  • Chinese name seal (You may use signature at First Commercial Bank)

You will have to fill out the application form on site and would receive your ATM card and passbook later. It is not necessary, but recommended, that you get a Taiwanese to write your full name, address and contact information in Chinese for you. This should ensure that a ‘demand deposit’ account is opened for you. Usually, your ATM card will arrive in the post about a week or later – remember to request a card with a Plus or Cirrus symbol on it, so you can access your Taiwanese bank account from outside the country, if needed. Some banks will ask you to wait while they process your application and will give you a card on the spot.
